It never fails, I waited for a while for parts to arrive and when I decided to just start the build and write up a nice post about the progress, the very next day, parts arrive that would have finished the build.
The remaining parts that I was waiting on were the motors, flight controller and ESC which came in from SpeedyBee yesterday. Since I can’t just let them sit there in their boxes… I had to install everything immediately.
Currently the drone is built, mostly. I flashed the flight controller with an updated Betaflight 4.4 (the stack came with 4.3 installed). Also set up the flight controller to use the DJI Goggles 2 and the Controller 2. Thinking that I will try and use the built in DJI control link for now and if the penetration isn’t good enough, I picked up an ExpressLRS receiver from HappyModel to install.
May need to pick up some batteries. For now I have a couple of GNB 4s batteries that will do the trick for now. I have two 850 mAh and one 720 mAh 4s batteries at the moment.
Still need to tidy up the build a bit.
Probably need to add a zip tie to secure the xt30 battery plug so it doesn’t get chopped up by the props.
Quadmula designed the Siren F3 split frame to allow for the battery plug wire to route through the bottom. Since I have a mini stack, the supplied cable is too short for that.
So, what’s next?
Currently we are under a tropical depression, so no test flights yet. At least not until it dries out there. Don’t want to ruin the quad before I get to get my time in on it. I’ll be sure to upload some video when I can get around to flying. Still trying to find that perfect spot around here, but that’s something of a never-ending mission in it of itself.
Thinking that I may write up a how to guide to get the OSD set up on a new build in BetaFlight. I had to research that myself as it was not very clear to me at least. So, stay tuned for something to come out later on for that on this blog.
