Sunjoe puts me to work

In preparation to my fall overseeding project, one of the critical steps was to mow real low and dethatch the whole front yard and bag up all the junk that comes out.

Those few words don’t exactly translate into the amount of work that actually means. LOL… sigh

One good thing is, the Sunjoe AJ801E makes quick work of it by being light and simple to operate. This dethatcher is great in that it pulls up so much crap out of your yard you wouldn’t believe.

It can do more than just use its tines to rake up the yard debris from the canopy floor of the yard, it also comes with a scarifier which will help really break up any bad soil areas or if you are doing a total yard reseed project where you essentially destroy it all and start over. I call it the nuclear option, usually involves lots of roundup weeks prior to seeding.

I am not doing the nuclear option this time around. I am just improving my yard each year.

As you can see, it makes a mess of things but that’s exactly what you want here. All of that junk would block your new seed from touching the soil where it really needs to be. This step really makes all the difference.

Basically after spending 4 hours on 3000 sq foot of my yard, I ended up with a ton of yard waste in bags. Lets just say all the bags because it really felt that way at the time.

The next thing to do would be to drink some beers and you know what, that’s exactly what I did. Topsoil was ordered and dumped in the driveway already but I wanted to get this post out here to document my journey this season.

Keep an eye out for, yet more images and stuff to come with this project.
