Fall Lawn Reno ’21

Every fall I like to prep the front yard to help improve the lawn before the following year. This year I need to go a bit further.

When we first moved into this house we soon found out that we needed a new sewer line. This involved getting a new pipe installed many feet below the surface of our front lawn. It’s been several years since and I think the yard has settled as much as its going to. What we are left with is a huge dip in the front yard.

Might be hard to see, but in the middle there is a deep dip in the lawn from the left side to the right side.

It’s time to do something about it.

The plan this year is to order 5 yards of topsoil and level off the front yard. Then I will mow real low and spray tenacity and lay down starter fertilizer. Then overseed with some excellent seed from GCI Turf. The seed is their Cool Blue mix and it’s left over from last year. So we’ll see how that goes. I will cover up bare spots with some peat moss just to keep it wet and keep the birds away.

In the coming days I will start prepping the yard and posting pictures to document the journey. Should be interesting to see what happens when the fall hits and my yard is hopefully super thick again. Fingers crossed.
